  • The Rice Boat is an award-winning Indian restaurant, originally founded in 2005 by Jacob Abraham, and specialising in the South Indian cuisine of Kerala.

Although he has lived in the UK much of his life, Jacob’s family comes from Kerala and his passion for its traditional cuisine has inspired him to recreate it as authentically as possible in Cambridge.

Rice Boat employs two full-time chefs, both from Kerala, who create the dishes from scratch using fresh ingredients. No pre-mixed sauces or jars of paste are used: everything – even the yogurt used in the home-made lassis – is created in the purpose-built kitchen. Having tried every possible local fish, Jacob flies in King Fish at least once a week for the hallmark fish curries.

Visitors from India and in particular Kerala always comment on how authentic the cooking at Rice Boat is – slow food at its best.
