  • Wau, bringing the taste of Malaysian street food to Newbury.

Our Malaysian food is rich in both culture and diversity. Traditional southeast Asian herbs and spices meet Indian, Malay and Chinese flavours to create a unique, traditional taste.

    Where it all began

Emmy grew up in Malaysia and loved the traditional Malaysian street food. She moved to England in 2012 and brought her passion with her, wanting to bring a taste of Malaysia to the UK. Wau is everything Emmy wanted it to be: a relaxed, friendly and fun place for people to enjoy freshly prepared Malaysian food cooked in the open kitchen.

    Why “Wau”?

‘Wau’ is a type of Malaysian handmade moon kite with intricate decorations. It has become one of Malaysia’s National symbols, not often found in the UK – we thought this was the perfect name for our Malaysian restaurant.

This venue has been suggested to us by Guy G, Berkshire.

Recently opened late 2017 and we have only eaten there once but will definitely be going back! Best fish curry I have ever had I think and the egg for starter was delightful.
